DMC in Morocco:
how to choose your destination management company.

Licence, network, transport, responsiveness: the criteria for choosing the right partner on the ground in Morocco, and the questions to ask before entrusting it with your travellers.

Published on 6 min read

A successful trip to Morocco is decided on the ground, from the welcome at the airport to the last transfer. Behind that seamless experience there is often a partner your travellers will never see named on their itinerary: the DMC, the destination management company that orchestrates every step in the country.

How do you choose one? Here is what a DMC does, the criteria that make the difference and the questions we recommend asking before you sign, whether you are planning a tour, a group or an event.

What a DMC does

A DMC, or destination management company, is an inbound agency that specialises in its destination. It designs itineraries, books hotels, guides and activities, arranges transfers and looks after travellers throughout their stay. It works for travel professionals – travel agencies, tour operators and event organisers – who then sell these trips under their own brand.

Where a tour operator puts together trips across many countries, a DMC knows its ground in detail: the hotels that suit each profile, real driving times, the guides who speak your clients’ language and the venues able to host a gala dinner.

The criteria that matter

  • Licence: an agency licensed by the Ministry of Tourism, with its licence number and professional liability insurance.
  • Experience: seasons of activity, groups already hosted and partners ready to recommend it.
  • Presence on the ground: offices in the main cities and a network of guides, drivers and suppliers throughout the country.
  • Transport: recent vehicles suited to the size of the group, experienced drivers and tourist transport permits.
  • Responsiveness: quick replies to quote requests, a dedicated contact and assistance you can reach at any hour during the trip.
  • Specialities: tours, MICE, golf or luxury travel, every DMC has its strengths; choose the one that masters your segment.

The questions to ask before you sign

  • Who will be our contact, before departure and during the trip?
  • Which hotels are proposed, and what are the alternatives if they are full?
  • Are the guides officially licensed, and do they speak our travellers’ language?
  • What are the deposit, payment and cancellation terms?
  • How are the unexpected handled: a delayed flight, a sick traveller, a change of itinerary?

For a group or an event

For a seminar, an incentive or a conference, the DMC becomes the conductor: venue scouting, negotiation with hotels, group transfers, gala dinners, team building activities and a coordinator on site. In Morocco, Marrakech, Casablanca, Agadir and Tangier have the large hotels and conference centres, while the desert and the Atlas offer rare settings for incentives.

Your questions

What is the difference between a DMC and a travel agency?

The travel agency sells the trip to the end client. The DMC organises it on the ground: hotels, transport, guides, activities and assistance. It works for agencies and tour operators, who remain their clients’ point of contact.

Does a DMC work with individual travellers?

Most DMCs reserve their services for travel professionals. Monarch Travel works with travel agencies, tour operators and event organisers.

How far in advance should you contact a DMC in Morocco?

A few weeks are enough for an individual tour. For a group or an event, allow six to twelve months, especially in spring and autumn.

How do you compare quotes from several DMCs?

Compare detailed itineraries: hotel names, driving times, meals, guides, entrance fees and assistance included. Also check the agency’s licence and cancellation terms.
